My little Anna started vomiting, drinking lots of water, wetting all over the house, had bad breath and got a rash and sores on her head and around the eyes. I took her to vet in Jan. and he ask if I had changed her food. He said it was a reaction to something. Gave her prednosone. She continued to Vomit lots even in bed at night several times a night. In Feb. I took her back to vet and he said her throat was sore and swollen and gave her antibiotics. In 3 weeks she was throwing up even more and back to vet I went. And another round of antibiotics was given. I went out of town to my daughters on the 16th, and forgot her food so gave her food my daughter had for her dog. On Monday I went to store not knowing Annas food was recalled and bought her another box of 12 pouches. It had not been taken off the shelf which upsets me. On that Friday the 23rd, I was back home and found out about the recall and all pouches had the recall dates and numbers on them, even ones I had forgot at home. Anna's vomiting has almost stopped since I stopped giving her the food.I took her for blood test and was so blessed, her kidneys and liver is ok, which the antibiotics May have saved her life. But she has developed a heart murmur. I have had Anna for 4 years and she is like my child as your pets are to you. So what they have did in harming our pets is no different than harming a child. I feel something needs to be done to the ones responsible for this. Now I don't know what to feed her.

I appologize for posting this all over the place, but this will get National Attention…something we need right now.

I mentioned in an earlier post that a Nationwide March (regarding pet safety and the recall) was being organized, well the date has been decided. It will be Saturday April 28,2007. Please join the following community (follow the link) and look for info on the March. Jen H. is leading the group, contacting animal rights organizations, shelters and such for support. I have included myself as a contact and to help with the organization efforts here in California. We need people from all geographic areas. Anyone in Northern/Central CA who wants to help please contact me at bodasnotaryservice@yahoo.com.

Donna, I think there may have been food out then. I think the dates are from Dec 3 through Mar something. Double check, but I am sure that the food was out in Dec.

Jamie, I know how you feel. We had to put our cat of 15 years down on Feb. 16 as well. We had no idea that he was poisoned by the cat food he was eating. Our vet, because of his age is not making this into a big deal, but he was a healthy cat up until about 2 weeks before he was put down. He had canker sores, that he would go and get shots for about every three months, but except for that he was extremely healthy, but this time it was different. He went downhill fast. He ate some special Kitty in pouches, due to the canker sores. He began drooling, with extremely bad breath, he wouldn't eat much, he drank tons of water, and couldn't control his bladder. He became so weak and could barely walk, and this was inside of a week. He had to be put down due to kidney failure. We weren't sure how he could go from a healthy cat with canker sores to kidney failure but we sure didn't think it was poison. When the recall came, we checked the pouches and they matched exactly, date and UPC codes. We contacted the vet who didn't appear to know about the recall until we told him. His assistant when I called her told me that it was possible that 9 cats could have died from around the US while eating the same food, and acted like it wasn't a big deal until they found the toxin it could be a fluke she said. My sister called both FDA and Menu foods last week, but still hasn't heard from them. I called our vet and asked that he report to the state vet, but I have a feeling that it probably won't happen, I told her that poison was found in the food, and she just acted again, like it was no big deal.
You know, if they are suspicious of the numbers on this site, the vets or FDA or someone needs to be putting up a website of their own where our pets can be counted, so far this has been the only place where our cat has counted. I miss him so much still, there are days I still cry. If he had died from natural causes, or even an accident, I think I could put this behind me a little easier, but poison in the pet food is inexusable, and the media, the government, some vets and the company doesn't seem to care! Wal-mart doesn't even appear to care, and seem calloused and clueless. In fact so many people appear clueless that it is suspicious. I do think that reporters and government should be taking this much more seriously than they are. I wrote to Shepherd Smith, a couple of ap people and I e-mailed a lot of acquaintances, friends and family personally about this. I'll continue to e-mail or call whoever it takes to get listened to.

My cat died early in Jan from acute kidney failure. The vet insisted he had to have ingested something toxic although nothing in my house had changed and he stayed inside. He had all the symtems we now hear about and could not be saved. He had eaten Iams packets of meat & gravy. Does anyone know if any bad food could have been on the shelf as early as January?

I have called Menu Foods at least 5 times and not gotten anywhere. If you have it call either Iams or Eukanuba's phone number. They seem to be a lot more helpful and considerate for peoples feelings. The FDA does not seem to be that helpful either.

Menu Foods needs to step up to the plate and take responsibility for this outrage. Thousands of people have lost their pet or their pets are in the hospital. We had to put our beloved kitten Kelsey to sleep last month for kidney failure and he was only 5 months old. When we adopted him he was perfectly healthy. 3 months later he was all of a sudden lethargic, not eating and drinking in excess. In my families mind Menu Foods have killed our beautiful kitten. If you have any food left make sure to keep it and send it to Eukanuba to be tested. I have and they are at least paying our vet bill. I have never been so saddened by something so outrageous.

(yeah, more sarcasm. But, sadly, probably also the truth.)

I started feeding my 2 dogs Nutro and Iams pouches on March 1, because the store was out of their regular brand. Within 2 days they started drinking 4x the amount of water they normally drank. They both started vomitting. After 1 day of the food, neither dog would eat anymore of it- I discussed this odd behavior with a friend. We thought maybe the food had a high salt content, which might explain the excess drinking. My friend called me on March 16th, about the recall. I took my dogs to the vet on the following Monday for blood and urine tests. Luckily both had normal results. I am glad my dogs had better sense than I when they both refused to eat more of the food.
