My best friend Bro a female Shih Tzu died on 1/5/07 after weeks of fruitless attempts to determine what was wrong with her. She was 13, so the vet said it was old age. I only fed her Nutro Max Puppy food, and yes I killed her with poisoned food. I have filed suit against Menu Foods; it is class action so anyone who wants to join in pls do so. It will take years to be resolved; I miss my dog, still have my cat Jet.

My 15 year old lab died last month. Why? The vet claims fluid in the chest. But he stopped eating and drinking water. Didn't move. He was eating Nutro dry dog food. The vet claims it came on "suddenly." No warning. We then gave him gravy dog food to get him to eat. So we're unsure why he died. In fact, no one will know until we hear more, or as I say, the real facts will come out. I will bet every dollar I have that there is MORE contamination with this recall. Why did it take three months to hear about this poisoning by CHINA? The food was contaminated since Dec. 2006. My family now has a new lab. We paid $850 and are training her again. Keep in mind, families with pets, especially dogs, give them training. This is costly. A good dog, requires special care, food and training. Imagine if our dear lab was a service dog? What would the cost be to replace him then? These dogs cost $50K up to replace. It is not like going to the pound and getting a replacement.

I am so upset. Now I hear on my local news (not national) as well as international (Canadian) that it "might" be in the human food supply? They can't rule this out? Let's see. Where is our Homeland Security dept? Where is our Dept. of Agriculture?

I read last week that one of the US processing plants for dog food which was part of this recall was located in Kansas. Apparently, this same plant was fined years ago for contaminated cow food, and the FDA or dept of agriculture had to intervene and warn them not to mix certain feed in their product for cattle.

Mad cow?

There is definitely more to come from this CHINA poisoning.

I don't believe anything they tell me.

My otherwise healthy lab is gone and I'm now left wondering who is watching out for Americans!

I too have contacted FDA. These people are trying hard to get to the bottom of this. We lost our cat about 4 days before the recall. The FDA is coming here Monday to get our unopeded food pouched that I saved, they want to do testing on them. The vet that I take my cat to, has already seen 3 cases of pets having to be put to sleep because of this. Now the media says it was rat poison, can menufoods get any more irresponsible?

I called the FDA last night at 11 pm and left a message about the death of my dog and what dog food he ate. I just got a call back from the FDA office in New Orleans and the individual was very polite and ask and took down all the necessary information concerning this pet food recall. I was very impressed with the response.

i know this thing has gone back further than december! i fed my 2 dogs old roy-meat in gravy, and they both died with a week-and this was in the summer! same symptoms as everyone describes on here-different vets, who just like to mask their symptoms. i want answers!

last week we had to bury our cat Snowball, a loving 13 pound all white cat with one blue eye and one green eye. we had adopted her from the SPCA almost 4 years ago. although money is tight every problem that she had we never thought twice about running her to the vet. three years ago she developed diabetes and her insulin, blood tests, etc. was a stretch money wise. we were wondering why our cat who ALWAYS wanted food was being real strange when we tried to feed her. last week i called to her and said it "was meow time" her call for food. she never came to the kitchen. because she was so big she had a staircase to get on our bed. i guess she had tried to get up and passed out. i called to her and noticed she was having problems breathing (her stomach got huge when she breathed in) and she cried during her exhale. i saw that she had uncontrolable swollowing. if i pet her she still purred so i went and got her food. i put it under her nose and she never acknowledged it was there. at that point i called the vet and told him about the problem and he said to get her right in. i called my husband at work and told him to come home right away because i couldn't handle taking her in. when my husband got home he picked her up and she had peed and lost her bowels on the floor. once at the vet Snowball was given fluids and when her sugar was checked it had bottomed out (because she had slowed down eating and we still gave her her insulin). the vet gave her a tube of glucose and she started to come around. about 2 hours later she went into uncontrolable seizures and by her eyes they could tell she now had brain damage. when we called the vet he said that she was dying and in fact if it had been just a hour later when i found her she would of been dead then. when she passed we went and picked her up and buried her in the backyard and we are having a stone made for her with her name.

IT WAS THE NEXT DAY THAT IT HIT THE NEWS ABOUT THE WET CAT FOOD! THE FOOD WE HAD BEEN FEEDING HER FOR AT LEAST THE PAST YEAR. I HOPE THAT SOMEONE CAN START A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST THE PEOPLE WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS. IT IS NOT JUST THE VET BILLS, SHE WAS ONE OF MY CHILDREN......AND NOW SHE IS DEAD! I PRAY THAT THE VETS CAN SAVE ANY MORE ANIMALS THAT HAVE BEEN HURT BY THIS DISASTER....NEESA

It's so frustrating. By a miracle I got through to the Menu Foods hotline but they won't take my information because I don't have the lot number.
My cat has been eating Nutro Max and Nutro Natural Choice pouches for three weeks while I was away on vacation at the end of Feb and before than, too. My husband dutifully was feeding her the food that I bought right before I left for vacation. When I got back two weeks ago I could not recognize my cat, she looked so old and sick. But my first thought was that she missed me and that's why she looked unhealthy, especially because after few days she started looking a little better. Although her behavior was a little strange, she wanted to drink water almost all the time, was sluggish and didn't eat much. Finally I took her to the vet and found out that her kidneys are failing. She is in treatment right now. I have no proof of the food that I fed her but a receipt from Petco and a print out from my P.A.L.S card. And just because I don't save empty pouches "just in case", the company won't accept my cat as being sick from eating their food. This is so frustrating. This way they can weasel out of so many claims and lower the numbers of actual damage they have done. I hope someone will look into it. My heart goes out to all that lost their pets already. My kitty is still fighting but the vet still doesn't know what will happen. She is my baby and her unconditional love for the past 12 years helped me get through many difficult times.

Taking no responsibility? I don't think so. Just a cop out because they don't want to confront their mistake. The company didn't check out their "new supplier" properly BEFORE they switched. Seems to be a Quality Control problem to me. I have written here before, and will continue to watch, do research and wait. One question I have is: though it is terrible to lose a loved one, what about all those animals that will live (for however long they can) and be on special prescription food or medications for the rest of their lives? Mewnu Foods should be held accountable for this too.
Not a day has passed since I put my Zippy down (2/21/07) that I haven't cried for his pain. My Oscar is still in pain daily. Though he seems to be better, only time will tell. My thoughts go out to you all.
