The dog ate WHAT?!

Tying in pretty nicely with Dr. Marty’s previous post on holiday hazards is this piece from MSNBC on all the things pets get into:
Dr. Mike Pavletic of the [MSPCA Angell] Animal Medical Center in Boston tells the story of a couple whose dog gulped the bride’s engagement ring. They spent an anxious night on the eve of their wedding waiting patiently for their pet to give it back.
Then there’s the infamous tale of one woman who became furious when shown what caused her dog’s gastro-obstruction — the remains of a pair of racy, red panties.
“They weren’t hers,” says Pavletic.
Here’s the rest of the piece, which includes a list of some of the most dangerous items a pet can ingest. What’s the weirdest thing your dog every ate? I’ll start: An entire bag of party balloons. This was years ago, but I remember all the festive colors showing up in the yard for days.

Did you see this story in the news today about the puppy that ate a baby’s toes? OMG!

My oldest Flat-Coat Zubie ate a container of glitter when she was about a year old. Yard clean-up was easy for a while - can’t miss glitter-poop sparking in the sunshine!

When she was young, my aussie pulled a paring knife off the counter and ate the wood handle. To add insult to injury, she left the knife blade next to an untouched rawhide chewy. As far as I could tell she didn’t even cut herself on the thing.

Our oldest flatcoat has eaten a sock, a glove, a pair of panties, and a fairly large rock. At least these from the top of my head.
Everything but the glove he threw up himself. A strong saline solution ingested caused the glove to come up. Luckily that was when he was a puppy, now he’s calmed down and doesn’t swallow withou thinking.

Our black lab Cookie ate a box of 24 Crayola crayons when she was a puppy - right before we left to visit friends 3 hours away. As was the case with the glitter poop, her poop was easy to spot when we cleaned up our friend’s yard!
