Life’s little guarantees

More unchanging than the laws of physics is the fact that if you have a public event, big meeting, first time out to dinner with future in-laws, what-have you, your face will break out the night before.
I have a book-signing Saturday afternoon, as in not even 24 hours from now. And an event with Dr. Marty at the Sacramento Public Library Tuesday night. Which means tonight I can feel my face breaking out, and see the first of such eruptions on my chin.
Oh well.
But at least I’m driving a great dogmobile this week. Which one? Here’s a quiz: What do you get when you cross a Blackberry, an iPod, a tricked-out Honda CR-V and a sportscar? The answer: An Acura RDX. Oh my, this baby is hot. Great acceleration and handles like a dream.
This is the first vehicle I’ve tested that people stopped me in the parking lot to ask about. And it talks to you! Turn on the radio, set the air temp in the car, find an Italian restaurant, etc., all by voice control. Dog room? Not enough for my side-by-side crates to fit, well, side-by-side, but they do fit, one going one way and one the other, and there’s cargo room left over. Pretty spiff.
Before my book-signing — 1 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Arden Way Barnes and Noble in Sacramento — Woody and I are going to a dog show an hour away. Makes for a busy day, but it’ll be a fun drive. More on the RDX later. Gotta go trim the last few scraggling hairs off the Woodster’s ears.

I have a big scary meeting this week, and my new zit looks like the Florida Keys. My kids named it Herbert.
Good luck with yours.
