The day after
By Gina Spadafori
December 26, 2004
For the last two months, I’ve been trying to teach Eddie, my caique parrot, to whistle "Deck the Halls" in anticipation of Christmas dinner here at my home. Of course, he refused to learn it, preferring instead to whistle endless choruses of "Miss America" yesterday when not demanding to be let out of his cage to check out visiting family.
Family gone, day after. And just a few minutes ago I hear, clear as a bell, "fa-la-la-la-la, fa-la-la-la.
Damn bird.
