Swiffer danger? Not!

The first time someone e-mailed me a warning about Swiffer Wet Jet being deadly to pets, I thought: Oh, it’s Febreze all over again.
I’ve received the Swiffer warning about 300 times since. And guess what? It really IS Febreze all over again. And now the Snopes urban legend Web site has a page debunking the warning. The Animal Poison Control Center says not to worry, either.
Snopes makes the interesting point that both Febreze and Swiffer are manufactured by Proctor & Gamble, which is a frequent target of animal-rights activists. Does make you wonder if the warnings aren’t really part of a malicious plan to damage sales.
It’s irresponsible to pass on an e-mail warning without checking it out. If you cannot verify the facts in an e-mail one way or the other, don’t hit “forward.” Hit “delete.”

Wow. I have a strict personal policy against email forwards. I don’t even forward those that I think are interesting for this exact reason. People don’t realize the damage this stuff does. Reminds me of the “Antiperspirants cause breast cancer” email warnings. I used to show and own Afghan Hounds. I was especially active in Junior Handling. My dog died in his prime, a few points shy of Champion and I quit showing. I enjoy reading your site.

Concerning the Swiffer Wet Jet. I purchased one when it first came out, still have the container that the solution was in. I can guarantee you, they changed the label on the container. I could even make you a copy and email it to you. Within 5 months of my using the Wet Jet, my 4 year old cocker spaniel died. Buster died April 15, 2004. Took him to different vets. Nothing could be done for him.
